Xbox One Firmware Updates are Inbound
Since the launch of the Xbox One back in November, several problematic or missing features have drawn the ire of early adopters and the snickers of many critics. Well, three of those issues are going to be rectified on February 11th in the latest Xbox One firmware update.
- Battery power indicator – Frankly I don’t know how this system could have possibly launched without it. Without the blinking/rotating ring of light that the 360 had and no on-screen battery power notification, your controller would just die in the middle of a game with no warning.
- Hard Disk Storage Management – One of the most interesting features of the Xbox One is the lack of hard disk management. You just continue to install games and the system keeps track of your played games and removes them from your hard drive at its own discretion. It hasn’t been an issue for me, yet. But, I could see obsessive-compulsive users being maddened by this. Also, the first time I went to play a game and had to sit through a two-hour download before I could play it, I would probably lose it.
- USB Keyboard Support – This one is kind of a no-brainer. The Kinect voice commands work well enough. But, there are still many menus in the system that require on-screen keyboards.
In addition to the February 11th system update, there is also another update going live on March 4th that deals primarily with the much-maligned Party Chat system and some other vague “multiplayer systems” updates.
So, once these two system updates are in place, what do you want out of your Xbox One that you aren’t already getting or what could they add to make you jump on the bandwagon?
