Storming the Beach – Turtle Beach Headsets
Ever since the announcement of the Xbox One, Turtle Beach has been kind of shielded about their solution to the new problems they will face getting their headsets to work on Microsoft’s new behemoth. The console has an all-digital interface, meaning that any stereo headsets developed for the previous round of consoles will no work on the Xbox One. But, luckily for many users, last generation boasted a murderer’s row of Dolby Digital, DTS, THX, 5.1, 7.1, 7.2 etc. etc. etc. headsets to meet any need and then some. So, any user that has a digital headset with an optical sound pass-through should be more than up to the task of bringing the joy of booming bass and cursing 12 year-olds.
That last statement wasn’t exactly true. Yes, the 12 year-olds on the internet are cursing. But, the headsets that you may currently own for the Xbox 360 don’t use the same talk back cable that connects to your controller. There have been rumors of an attachment or adapter cable to allow the old headsets to work. But, no mock-ups or announcements have been made to confirm the existence of those. To make matters more concerning, Turtle Beach’s round of headsets for the Xbox One have been delayed for a second time, originally planned for around launch, then February 1st, and now sometime in March. So, for those users who prefer the headset experience or live in an apartment or dorm that would require a headset to get the whole game experience, it seems that there is no real answer. Will your old headsets work? When will the new headsets come out?
I guess for now, all we can do is wait… in silence.
