I Swear I Need These – Building a Classic Video Game Library
Video games are totally awesome. Some of my earliest memories are of playing an Atari 2600 in the basement of my childhood home in suburban Detroit. I can still remember to this day what it was like when my brother got the NES Power Pack with Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, and Track Meet. My mom forged my birth certificate so I could work at a McDonald’s near our house to buy a Playstation. What I am trying to tell you is that my love of video games runs deep.
Over the years, I sold many of my old games to get new games and new systems. At the time I was blinded by the shiny newness of the unknown and a desire to have it and without knowing it, I let much of my youth go when I traded off those old games and systems. If I wanted to go back and play Golgo 13, I wouldn’t be able to, unless I wanted to go over to the dark side and run some kind of emulator like a savage. Instead I have decided to go back and rebuild much of my collection with some old favorites and games I missed along the way.
Luckily, many of the games that I loved in my youth are cheap and I have started striking items off the list quickly and inexpensively. I have decided to employ every tactic in my arsenal to get the best deals. Craigslist, eBay, Amazon, flea markets, yard sales, and second hand shops are all fair game. I will continually update this article with new purchases and deals I find. Let’s build a classic game collection!
I have put a short list together of my recent acquisitions in my classic video game library:
